Penny is Emily’s elder sister, and plays viola in the Quartet. She was also taught by mum, gaining Grade 8 on violin and viola (distinction) before going on to study music at Liverpool University, gaining her BA Mus (Hons) in 1999. She went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music and at Manchester Metro University. She is currently Head of Music in a Lancashire High School.

Pamela is mum to both girls and plays second violin in the Quartet. She studied violin, piano and voice (contralto) at the Royal Manchester College of Music before starting a highly successful career as an instrumental teacher. She has trained several youth orchestras and string orchestras and many of her pupils have gone on to study music and made it their career.

David, father of the girls and husband of Pam, plays ‘cello in the Quartet. He studied bass and composition at the RMCM, where he met Pam. He has divided his professional life between teaching and playing - he also plays bass guitar in various jazz, dance and cabaret venues. Three of his compositions have been broadcast on radio by the BBC and he has conducted a number of youth orchestras in this country or on foreign tours.

The Spring Quartet was formed 1995 when the family was approached by someone wanting string music at their wedding. Their success led to an engagement to play for the World Transplant Games Sponsors Dinner. Since then they have played for many weddings and corporate functions including the World Track Cycling Championships & the wedding of one of Elton John’s musicians. In 2001 they were invited to present a series of concerts and workshops in Barbados.
